State of the Union Address Preview

Exactly two years before the end of his second term, President Barack Obama will give theBarackObamaportrait state of the union address.

The president will begin the annual speech tonight at 7 p.m. MT.

Over the past two weeks, Obama and aides have promoted a variety of items to be included in this year’s speech. They include proposals for tax increases on the wealthy, tax breaks for the middle class, community college, housing, manufacturing, cyber security, and requirements for paid sick leave.

Obama is expected to focus on signs that the economy is recovering from the financial crisis of 2008 in order to combat objections from the republican controlled congress.

“America’s resurgence is real,” the president said in his Saturday radio address. “Our job now is to make sure that every American feels that they’re a part of our country’s comeback. That’s what I’ll focus on in my State of the Union.”
