This year’s Poms League competition was held at Vista on Nov. 15, 2017. Many schools attended such as, Ponderosa, ThunderRidge, Rock Canyon and Highlands Ranch. Vista’s junior varsity team took first place in the category of jazz at the competition.

“It feels great to win. We have already won twice and hope to go undefeated. We have worked really hard so it is such a great feeling to see that work pay off,” JV dancer sophomore Kay Foley said.

The junior varsity girls told a story of domestic violence with their dance. Specifically, they focused on a relationship of a child being beaten by her father. Foley was given the opportunity to dance solo during this dance.

“It felt great [to have a solo] especially to be able to portray the role and tell a story to reach those who are actually going through that,” Foley said.

Varsity placed second at the competition in the category of jazz.

“It felt good to place second although we hoped to place first,” varsity dancer sophomore Tatum Reading said. “We worked very hard as a team and put so much effort in and I am really happy with the outcome.”

Unlike junior varsity, varsity used their dance to send a message of positivity and happiness.

“We wanted to tell people they are wanted and not alone and we wanted to give joy throughout the entire dance,” Reading said.

Although varsity placed second, they are planning to compete at the state competition on Dec. 9. JV is also planning to compete at state Dec. 2, as well Nov. 18 at Chaparral High School.
