Varsity Baseball Knocked Out of Playoffs by Cherry Creek

The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles and the Cherry Creek Bruins faced off in the 2017 CHSAA 5A State Baseball Semifinals at All-City Field on May 26, 2017. Both teams were awarded plaques before the game in recognition of achieving a position in the final four of the playoffs.

Vista came out strong early, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Zach Paschke scored first on a wild pitch, followed by RBI hits by Alex Clouthier and Elisandro Aragon. Cherry Creek responded in the bottom of the first inning with five runs, taking the lead.

The Golden Eagles came right back with four more runs in the top of the second inning with RBI singles by Sam Ireland and Alex Clouthier. At the end of the second inning Vista led 8-5 and would continue to keep that lead until the bottom of the seventh inning when, with two outs, the Bruins scored three runs to tie the game.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Golden Eagles lost on a heartbreaking walk-off hit to the Bruins 9-8.

Mountain Vista finished a remarkable season with a record of 18-7. Vista “swept the ranch” this season and achieved the title of district champions.
