Unified Soccer

The Unified Soccer Team kicked off their season with a tournament at Echo Park Stadium and has played two games since, their most recent an 8-8 tie against Chaparral High School.

Junior Anthony Algiene scored two goals in the Chaparral game on Wednesday, but for him and other members of the team the game isn’t all about the numbers.

“I like [Unified Soccer] because I get to play with my friends,” Algiene said.

algieneThe athletes have more of a passion for the game and their teammates than they do for their season record. Just being out there with their team is all they need to have a good time.

“I just love playing because I love soccer and it is fun to run around and get exercise.” Sam Boles, Junior, said.

While the players enjoy the game, parents, peers and coaches, get their fair share of enjoyment from supporting and interacting with the players. The team even had encouragement fro
cheerleaders who attended the game.

“My favorite part about being involved in the program is getting to see the constant smiles on the athlete’s faces every time they step on the field,” coach Morgan Miller, Senior, said. “I decided to get involved as a peer because I enjoy working with people with disabilities and I have formed a lot of bonds with the students here at Mountain Vista.”

Vista will face Highlands Ranch High School on Wednesday for their fourth game of the season, but when they do it won’t be about who is the better team, instead the focus will simply be getting on the field and being involved in the game.
