The Golden Eagles took the field early Friday night to compete against Cherokee Trail High School for their second-to-last game of the regular season.
The Eagles took the lead within the first couple minutes of the game, scoring seven points on their first offensive drive and following it up with two touchdowns to lead the Cougars, 21-0, at the conclusion of the first quarter.
Cherokee Trail fought to make the game a little more even during the second half, responding to another touchdown by Vista with one of their own before the quarter was over. The teams went into the locker room with the Cougars trailing the Eagles, 28-7.
Aside from one more touchdown by Vista in the third quarter, the remainder of the game saw few points scored and, at the end of the fourth quarter, Cherokee Trail fell to Vista, 35-7. The Eagles’ victory brings their season record to 4-5 and slightly increases their chance at earning a spot in the state tournament. However, the team must win its next match against Rock Canyon High School to significantly increase the odds.
