On Nov. 2, the jazz band and choirs from the school joined together to put on the November Night of Jazz.
The Mountain Vista Golden Silhouettes, Syncopation choir and Jazz Ensemble band performed a total of 14 songs, directed by choir teacher Jerry VanderDoes and band teacher Darren DeLaup.
The evening opened with a performance of “Buckjump” by the Jazz Ensemble.
Sophomore Ian Spillman has played drums in Jazz Ensemble since his freshman year.
“Jazz band gives me the opportunity to do what I love in the middle of the school day. It’s a place for me to forget about everything else and just play music,” Spillman said.
The band performances were followed up with performances of “Java Jive” and “Here’s to Life” by the Golden Silhouettes and the Syncopation choir respectively.
Senior Grace Foster reflected on one of her last concerts with the Golden Silhouettes, which she has been a part of since her junior year.
“I’ve definitely opened up more to different voices,” Foster said. “I used to think one voice was good but I’ve opened up and broadened my experience.
The next performance for band and orchestra will be on Dec. 8th for their Winter Concert.
