On May 9, National Honor Society held a Walk-A-Thon at Chatfield. The fundraiser was to raise money for a child’s surgery on his club foot in Zimbabwe and Nepal earthquake relief efforts.

Even though it was cold and raining NHS members still showed up to walk five miles. Students each pledged about $50 to $100 for the walk. The club raised $2500 for the surgery and $4000 for Nepal, along with $500 for the Cash family.

Junior Pranathi Durgempudi is next year’s Vice President for NHS and felt that the Walk-A-Thon was a great cause. “I think it had really great intentions,” Durgempudi said. “Everyone got to have some fun with their friends while also helping out with the devastation in Nepal, so I would call that a win-win.”

She hopes to do more events like this in the future. “Big events like this are definitely something we’ve talked about so that we can get everyone involved,” Durgempudi said.
