Mountain Vista High School junior Mallory Pugh was named National Gatorade Player of the Year for women’s soccer at a special assembly held at 10 a.m. on May 21.
Pugh was named player of the year thanks to her hard work and dedication to the soccer program, school and community service. Currently, Pugh is the No. 1 prospect among the class of 2016 for women’s soccer.
Professional soccer player, two-time World Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist Brandi Chastain presented Pugh with her award as a surprise during her second period class right before the assembly began.
Pugh and her family will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet at this year’s ESPYs where the National Player of the Year will be announced. The player of the year award is awarded to twelve people of twelve different sports before a single winner is picked.
