“Looking for Alaska” Review

“Looking for Alaska” Review

For all the John Green fans out there, “Looking for Alaska” is a must-have. “Looking for Alaska”, John Green’s first novel, was originally published in 2005 but has just recently become popular due to “The Fault in Our Stars” becoming a worldwide phenomenon.  “Looking for Alaska” has won many awards since its publication in 2005 and is used in many high school and college classes.

The novel is narrated by junior Miles Halter who leaves his safe, boring home in Florida to go to Culver Creek Academy in Alabama searching for “a great perhaps”. Many wild adventures await him at the Creek, as well as crazy new friends, including Alaska Young. Alaska is a brilliant, funny and somewhat screwed up girl that Halter falls for immediately.

The story, while witty and endearing is also quite tragic, as most John Green novels are. All in all, it was a great book full of adventure and finding oneself.

Luckily for fans of the novel, news of an upcoming movie was just released. According to TIME magazine, Paramount signed famous actress and filmmaker Sarah Polley to adapt “Looking for Alaska” into a movie. John Green tweeted on June 25, how excited he was “that the brilliant filmmaker Sarah Polley will be writing and directing a film adaptation of ‘Looking for Alaska’.”
