In recent years, hostage situations have come to fall deaf on our ears in light of the string of incidents that take place all across the world. In many cases, we hear the incident and forget it ever happened until the hostage is announced safe.
What we don’t hear often is when such a situation goes wrong.
A French military agent who was left unnamed was taken hostage on Bastille Day in 2009 by Somali terrorists, and after a failed Saturday attempt to save him failed, the terrorists announced his execution on the 16th.
The terrorists called the execution a protest to France’s interference in the Islamic World, specifically Mali.
The Saturday raid also left two French commandos and an unknown number of kidnappers dead.
