Halloween Movie Recommendations

Halloween+Movie+Recommendations

Everyone’s favorite haunted holiday is almost here. While some go out trick-or-treating and others decide to attend Halloween parties, there are those who choose to celebrate Halloween comfortably on their sofa with pizza, popcorn, candy, drinks and an entertaining flick; the dilemma with watching a movie on Halloween is choosing what to watch. Yes, “The Purge” (2013) is a creepy and intense flick, but you have seen it a billion times already. You do not want to celebrate a late Valentine’s Day by watching “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004) and you definitely do not want to join the media’s celebration of an early Christmas by watching “Jingle All The Way” (1996), but you also do not want to watch “The Avengers” (2012) for the umpteenth time, so you are left confused. To help all of you movie buffs out, Vista Now has provided some different, out-of-the-ordinary and underrated selections that people do not usually watch on Halloween:

#1. “Knock Knock” (2015)

keanu_reeves_2014

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Ana de Armas, Lorenza Izzo, Colleen Camp and Aaron Burns

Genre: Thriller/Horror

Plot: “Two stranded young women invite themselves into the home of a devoted husband and father to wreak havoc on his sanity and ruin his life.”

You may not want to celebrate an early Christmas or late Valentine’s Day, but you might be interested in celebrating a late April Fool’s by watching Eli Roth’s “Knock Knock” (2015) because it is one of those few movies that is so bad that it is good. I highly recommend gathering some friends together and watching this hilariously awful, poorly acted and ridiculously written flick that will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.

#2. “Secret Window” (2004)

Starring: Johnny Depp, John Turturro, Maria Bello and Timothy Hutton

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Plot: “A writer is haunted by a mysterious man after being accused of plagiarizing his story.”

I highly suggest this creepy thriller for anyone who is a fan of Johnny Depp. This is a great substitution for his more well-known films like “Edward Scissorhands” (1990) and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” (2007). Although it is not a perfect movie, it still provides audiences with an excellent performance from Depp and Turturro and a great story, so it is more than sufficient for your Halloween Movie Night.

#3.  “The Village” (2004)

m-_night_shyamalan_2008_-_still_40580

Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Bryce Dallas Howard, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody and Brendan Gleeson

Genre: Drama/Thriller

Plot: “An isolated village is morphed by a series of dark and strange events.”

This movie is often credited as the film that began the downfall of M. Night Shyamalan’s career, but I still believe it is worth watching due to it’s awesome cast, excellent cinematography and fascinating story. This is an unpredictable and surprising thriller that will have your eyes glued to the screen.

#4. “The Neon Demon” (2016)

Starring: Elle Fanning, Karl Glusman, Jena Malone, Bella Heathcote, Abbey Lee, Desmond Harrington, Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves

Genre: Horror/Thriller

Plot: “A young model glides through the intricate and competitive modeling industry which causes the jealousy of beauty-obsessed women.”

This is flat out one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen in my life. That is all I can say about this movie because I am getting chills just thinking about it. Looking for an extremely weird and creepy movie? Go check out “The Neon Demon”.

#5. “One Hour Photo” (2002)

6451536411_7cfa0030f1_b

Starring: Robin Williams, Connie Nielsen, Michael Vartan and Dylan Smith

Genre: Drama/Thriller

Plot: “A suburban family is stalked by a lonely and insane photo lab employee.”

The late, great Robin Williams delivers one of the most underrated performances of all time in this spooky thriller. Anyone who is interested in seeing what happens when a comedic actor takes a dark and dramatic role should definitely watch “One Hour Photo”.

#6. “Constantine” (2005)

keanureeveslakehouse

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Djimon Hounsou and Max Baker

Genre: Fantasy/Horror

Plot: “Supernatural detective, John Constantine, assists another detective in proving her sister’s death was a homicide.”

Keanu Reeves makes his third appearance on this recommendation list with the massively entertaining, heart pumping and mind racing “Constantine”. Fans of Reeves and great action and fantasy films should definitely watch Reeves shine as everyone’s favorite supernatural detective.

#7. “Blade” (1998)

15085040341_3d5391157a_b

Starring: Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, N’Bushe Wright and Stephen Dorff

Genre: Action

Plot: “A half-vampire/half-human guards humanity against vampires as the superhero, Blade.”

Wesley Snipes absolutely kills it as Blade in this late 90’s action movie. You must watch this if you enjoy superhero and/or vampire movies because it is fantastic!

#8. “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” (2008)

3681472734_0535a57ab1_b

Starring: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, John Alexander, Luke Goss and Anna Walton

Genre: Fantasy/Action

Plot: “Hellboy and his team must stop an evil prince who seeks to rebel against mankind with a powerful army and dangerous creatures.”

In my opinion, this is one of the best superhero movies ever made. It’s exciting, interesting, intense and, surprisingly, hilarious. This is the perfect film to watch with your friends and I promise anyone who watches this that they will not regret it because it has got something for everybody!

#9. “10 Cloverfield Lane” (2016)

551789134_1280x720

Starring: John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher Jr.

Genre: Drama/Mystery

Plot: “A woman is trapped in a shelter with two men who believe the outside world has been hit by a chemical attack.”

John Goodman is absolutely phenomenal in “10 Cloverfield Lane”. This claustrophobic and dark film will have you sinking in your seat and nervously eating popcorn till it ends.

#10. “Soaked In Bleach” (2015)

maxresdefault

Starring: Daniel Roebuck, Sarah Scott, August Emerson, Tyler Bran and Tom Grant

Genre: Documentary/Crime

Plot: “A private investigator, who was hired by Courtney Love to find her missing husband, reveals his thoughts and opinions on the case of Nirvana lead singer, Kurt Cobain’s mysterious death.”

Not interested in a cheesy or unrealistic flick? Want to see a real horror story? Watch “Soaked in Bleach”. This is the best documentary I have ever seen in my life. Normally, I am not a big believer in conspiracy theories because some of them are really “out there” and far-fetched, but this documentary will have you prophesying to everyone you meet that Kurt Cobain did not kill himself.

Check out any or several of these flicks for your Halloween Movie Night and be sure to share this list and  let VistaNow know what you are watching on Halloween. Just don’t get too frustrated when you have to pause the movie to answer the door for Trick-or-Treaters.
