Gay-Straight Alliance’s Pride Week is scheduled for the week of April 13-17 to create awareness for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) community and the Trevor Project, which is an organization created to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention to LGBT+ teens and young adults.

This is the week’s schedule:

Monday, April 13: Students will wear rainbow and GSA will be giving out ally buttons.

Tuesday, April 14: Vista Day. Students will wear green.

Wednesday, April 15: Stand Up To Bullies Day. Students will wear purple.

Thursday, April 16: Students will wear tie dye. There will be a movie night after school featuring “Mean Girls” at 3:15 p.m. in the cafeteria. There is no charge for the movie night but there will be snacks available for purchase.

Friday, April 17: NOH8 Day. Students will wear white. GSA will be face painting “NOH8” to raise awareness in the commons before school. Friday is also the National Day of Silence. Students can sign up early and go to room L413 to pick up their stickers that morning. The Parents Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) organization will be attending the GSA meeting that evening in room L413 from 3-4 p.m. PFLAG is an organization of straight allies working with the LGBT+ community to advance equality, education and advocacy. A representative will visit to talk about their organization for anyone who is interested.

There will be a schedule poster displayed in the school all week as well.

“We, as the GSA as well as the faculty, want to promote an inviting, safe and open environment for all students,” junior Conner Humann said.
