BLOG: This is Me! 2.0

BLOG%3A+This+is+Me%21+2.0

My name is Kit Miller and I am the editor of the Vista Now website and “Periphas” – our literary magazine.

I introduced myself at the beginning of the school year as your stereotypical stick in the mud. Then I explained a vital lesson I learned last year and described myself in a manner just as boring. I don’t know about you, but that’s not an interesting read to me. If you would allow me, I would like to reintroduce myself.

My name is Lauren Miller. I don’t like my name though, so please call me Kit. I didn’t want to be the editor of the Vista Now website, but the previous website editor personally asked me to carry on his legacy. I’m glad I obliged. Being website editor has given me the opportunity to explore computer coding, something I had interest in but never the time. It was fun customizing the website to look exactly how we wanted it to. That is, until I made a “fatal error” and killed the website. Whoops.

In case this tidbit of information about me hasn’t already been beaten to death, I am the author of “Sailor Uncovered.” Before I became an author I was defined by my quiet personality. Now I’m defined by a book. I’d rather be defined by my personality than an object, which is the exact opposite of my mindset at the beginning of the year. I thought I could handle being a walking and talking brand, but it’s a lot harder than I originally thought. I really focused on my poetry this year and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished. I still love school (despite Calculus BC kicking my butt,) I’m still a self-proclaimed literature expert, I have yet to win a Fantasy Football league, I’m slowly breaking out of my shell, and I am deathly terrified of the ocean (pray for me: I’m going on a cruise this summer.)

I hate confrontation, which is why I originally said I would avoid controversial topics. The problem is journalism is a highly liberal-dominated field and the other editors and staff members weren’t afraid to voice their opinion. Naturally, I had to voice mine as well in order to even the playing field. I will always defend my conservative viewpoints. And before anyone asks, no, I do not support Donald Trump. (Who wants to sign my petition to bring Rand Paul back into the race?)

This is my hello and goodbye. Despite how much I love blogging about literature and the GOP, my schedule next year doesn’t allow for much wiggle room. Journalism requires enough wiggle room for a marlin on a fishing boat. I only have enough wiggle room for a shrimp. Or a sardine if I’m lucky.

Thanks for listening to me rant for these past two and a half years. It’s been real.
