BLOG: Allow Me to Introduce Myself

BLOG%3A+Allow+Me+to+Introduce+Myself

My name is Kelsey Pharis and I have been on staff since my sophomore year. I am involved in Mountain Vista Media for a multitude of reasons. However, the main two reasons are that I hope to be a journalist when I am older and the adviser is amazing. I started as a beat reporter for a little less than a year and then, during the National High School Journalism Convention in D.C., I sat down with Mark Newton and discussed what I hope to accomplish and that I hope to be a leader in the program.

From then on I was considered an editor and hoped to share my passion of sports journalism with as many people as I could. Newt makes all the hard work worth it because, even though he gives tough feedback, you can tell how much he cares about all of us and he only wants us to do the best we can do.

For me, journalism is my everything. When I am older I hope to be an on air sports reporter and Mountain Vista Media is helping me make that dream a reality. Although my focus is more in broadcast and print, I also love the photography and design parts of journalism as well.

Outside of journalism I love to travel and have been to six countries; Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Germany, Hungary and Austria.  Within the next year I will also travel to Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam with my family and a friend.

My family is extremely important to me. Everything I do, I do for them. Without them I would not be able to accomplish my dreams nor would I strive to do anything besides watch Netflix.

When our adviser, Mark Newton, explained that he thought a blog would be a good idea for any staff members or editors who wanted to write about things that they thought were relevant I was over the moon. I would now be able to write about things that annoy me on a platform where it was appropriate.

Although the topics in which I write about every week will be widespread from politics to sports to celebrities to current events and everything in between, the common theme will be annoyance.

This may seem a bit cynical to some, but I feel that writing about things that annoy me helps me get past my anger towards them. I also realize that some of you might disagree with what I write about or think that what I am writing is completely crazy (which it might be).  If you ever want to discuss what I have written I am in the newsroom (U328) for first, third and fifth period.  During seventh period I am in the editor’s room which is just down the hall from the newsroom or you can email me at [email protected] or [email protected].
